The Ira A. Fulton Residential College at the Technical School is a cohesive, vibrant community of scholars that seeks to extend learning beyond the traditional classroom, laboratory, or seminar environment, allowing students and the greater ASU community to explore shared intellectuals and extracurriculars. interests together. The residential college sponsors a wide range of social, cultural and intellectual activities, fostering interaction between different communities, as well as helping students achieve academic, social and career goals. Students have access to community mentors and upper-division students from a variety of degree programs in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, who serve as a resource for residents and help plan various activities.

Freshmen live in the newly constructed Century Hall. The new three-story, 84,000-square-foot residence has two wings. Century Hall creates an environment where students will live with peers who share the same major, can interact with faculty members, and have access to academic resources and student services outside of the classroom. Each wing contains student activity halls for pool, soccer and table tennis. In addition, each floor includes a TV, two quiet study rooms and a free laundry area for Century residents. The two wings of the building are linked together by a single-storey common area with a lobby, 24-hour information desk, administration offices, community kitchen, two multi-purpose rooms, a group study room and a popular small collaborative studio as the solution space. . Outside the common area has two gas grills, seating and a patio. Note: There is an additional fee of $49 per semester to live in a residential college community.

Current Barrett Honors College students on the technical campus live in Lantana Hall, which opened in August 2020. Lantana Hall houses the Barrett residential community and the Barrett Suite, including a student lounge, faculty and staff offices, classrooms, a computer lab and study space.

The Off-Campus Housing Fair took place March 20-21 on ASU’s Tempe campus and included representatives from on- and off-campus residential communities, and local businesses that provide important services, resources and amenities to students.

More than 20 ASU Community Ambassadors live in 13 off-campus residential communities around the Tempe campus that are partnered with the university. They provide peer support and engage with student residents within the community, connecting them with on-campus services and organizing community events for the Sun Devils. A cadre of community ambassadors were at the fair to offer their assistance.

Students Michael Bergstrom and Britni Farley are ASU Community Ambassadors who advise Sun Devils who live off campus. They appeared at the fair to share their experience and provide information about resources for students preparing to live off campus.

Bergstrom, an ASU graduate student studying marriage and family therapy, recommends that students consult the housing guide when considering where to live.

Bergstrom has lived in several different off-campus apartment complexes and now resides in the Cottages of Tempe. He likes the layout of his community and enjoys having access to a campus shuttle and organizing group outings with residents to enjoy Sun Devil football and basketball games. He said the best advice he would give to someone making the move would be to do their homework.

American Campus Communities’ Student Housing Slump

“[Do your research] now before the spaces fill up and before the rent goes up,” he said. “The sooner you find a place and sign a lease, the better, but make sure you consider the things you don’t even know to consider. . Go there and make sure you like it before you commit to living there.”

Farley is a junior at ASU studying business law. She is also a community ambassador and lives at Villas on Apache. She said students should choose the option that suits the convenience, lifestyle and price they are looking for.
