GolfWeek Magazine has released its annual list of the best public access courses in each state, and Shadow Creek is once again in its traditional place at the top of Nevada’s choices.
The exclusive MGM property in North Las Vegas is home to the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play, one of the rarest times the public gets to see the course.
GolfWeek’s parameters for its list are that the course allows the public to play in some way, through daily green fees, a resort or a stay at an affiliated hotel.
Although not specifically mentioned, Shadow Creek is in a category recommended by course evaluators in an additional explanation.

This high roller coaster, 20 minutes from the Strip, is a work of architecture and engineering feat. For the newly released 2020-21 US list, each panelist was provided with a list of 489 courses. Next to that list of courses were 11 “buckets,” or groupings. If our panel considered a course to be among the top three in the country, they ticked that box. If they believed the course was among Nos. 4-10 in the US, they checked that box, followed by 11-25, 26-50, and so on.

The panelists were also free to write matters they thought should be included in the ballot (we had less than a handful of such additions in the US ballot).

It is an intentionally simple and straightforward process. Why? Because it consistently produces results that are widely praised. Like the game itself, there’s no need to make things unnecessarily complicated.
