Difference In Bachelor Of Arts And Bachelor Of Science – Congratulations! After months or even years of debating, you’ve decided on a Computer Science major. The decision has been made, and you are truly set on your path as a Seidenberg student. Or so you think. Even if you’ve decided to major in CS, there’s still one pesky decision to make – which degree in Computer Science is best for you: BA or BS? At other colleges, you only have one option, but here at Pace University, we have both, which in many ways makes things more difficult. So, before you go ahead and decide here are some things you should know.
Without comparing the exact course requirements for the two degrees, here is a general idea of the main differences.
Difference In Bachelor Of Arts And Bachelor Of Science
The main difference between BA and BS in Computer Science is that BA has a minor included, while BS does not, meaning you must declare a minor to complete your BA. On the other hand, for a BS in Computer Science, you don’t have to declare a minor (but you can if you want!). Note that doing so with a BS may take more time to complete because you have more CS-related courses to complete than a BA. Below is a quick comparison between the number of computer science classes you need to take for BA and BS.

Note: This is the Work Degree screen from my Pace Portal. Green check marks indicate what’s completed, blue indicates what’s in progress, and empty check boxes indicate what’s unfinished or in progress.
Just like it’s easy to add a minor, it’s also easy to double major with a BA in Computer Science. That’s because with a BA, you’re more likely to have overlap between the classes needed to fulfill your course requirements. Also, double majoring with a BA is generally less stressful than double majoring with a BS. Although it is possible to do it with BS, be aware that classes for BS majors are usually more demanding, meaning you may have less room for interests outside of your studies.
Note: A double major and a double degree are actually two different things. Double majoring means studying two majors that are the same. For example, studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Creative Writing is considered a double major. On the other hand, a double degree means pursuing two majors for two separate degrees. Studying for a BS in Computer Science and a BA in Creative Writing is considered a dual degree, meaning that when you graduate, you’ll have two different degrees instead of one. An easy way to remember the difference between the two is that a double major means two equal majors and a double major means two opposite majors.
A BS major in Computer Science is better if you want a more technical job. If you want a more creative job, then pursuing a BA might be better for you. Here is a list of the types of jobs you can get with a degree.

Note: Don’t be discouraged if you are interested in BA but are drawn to one of the jobs that fall under the BS category. When it comes to the type of degree you have, the work you do outside of it can be more demanding. If you have completed a project that leans more on the technical side, be sure to add that to your resume. It will show that you have the skills to do beyond what you learned in school. The same applies to a BS. If you have a BS but are interested in one of the jobs that fall under the BA category, try doing a more creative project and add that to your resume.

The great thing about Degree Works is that it has a “what-if” section that allows you to see the course requirements and credits needed for the major or minor you’re interested in. If you are trying to decide between a BA degree. and BS in Computer Science or other degree, Work Degree is perfect to consider your options. If you already know how to access Degree Works, please skip this section.
To access Degree Works login to the Pace Portal using your Pace ID and password. Once you are logged in, select Degree Works at the bottom left of the screen to be redirected to the system.

Time to test the “what-if” part. On the left under the worksheet tab you should see a “what-if” tab. Select it, and you will see this.
To compare the requirements for BA and BS in Computer Science you need to select a degree (one of the two) and a catalog year, and fill in Computer Science for your major and Seidenberg for your college. Splitting your screen in two can make the comparison process easier. The process may be different for Mac and Windows users.
It is important to remember that this is a decision only you can make. It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing and what your family wants for you, but making decisions based on other people’s opinions is a disservice to yourself. If you choose something you never wanted to do and change your mind later, you can delay your graduation time. When it comes down to deciding, try to talk to your advisor. Doing so can help you weigh your options and choose the one that works best for you. If you don’t know who your advisor is, try using their title to find their name and email.

Ignacia Place, 3rd & 4th Floor 62 Sgt. Esguerra St. Ms. Ignacia, Brgy. Southern Triangle, Quezon City Let’s face it—psychology acronyms can be confusing! You might be looking for the wrong psychology degree, or don’t know which psychology program you want to apply to—just because you’re not sure what the acronym means.
First of all, the reason there are so many different degrees and associated abbreviations is that the field of psychology is very varied and professionals in psychology serve different purposes in the world. Some psychologists work in hospitals, some work in schools. Some psychologists earn their PhD in Psychology (which is short for doctor of psychology) and open their own private practices that help individuals navigate life. Some people earn a BS or BA (bachelor of science in psychology and bachelor of arts in psychology for short) in psychology and go on to pursue careers consulting corporate leaders or teaching.
