Southwest Credit Card Foreign Transaction Fees – Business owners can earn 60,000 points with the Premier Business Credit Card or 80,000 points with the Performance Business Credit Card.

It’s been a long time since I applied for a travel airline card. My first airline card was a Delta Gold AMEX, which I had for about 8 years. As I traveled more internationally, I realized that many places did not accept American Express, so I started looking for other options. I get a lot of email offers on hotel and airline credit cards. One caught my eye, the Southwest Airlines Chase Credit Card! The discount at that time was to spend 2,000 within 3 months and get 50,000 points. I’m going to provide my honest Southwest Credit Card review, but first, let’s discuss the ins and outs of the Southwest Credit Card.

The interest on the Southwest Chase card is about 16.24%, but I never let these cards accrue interest. This is where people can get into trouble.

Comparing The Southwest Credit Cards For The Best Welcome Offer

Every time Chase pulls credit for approval, it stays on my report as a hard pull for 2 years.

Closer to Chase’s 5/24 rule. The 5/24 rule states that if you open more than 5 Chase accounts in a 24-day period, you will not be approved for additional cards. Although this is not officially in writing, it is already in the app and is well known on the streets of credit card bonus chasers 😀

My credit score dropped quite a bit, but it has improved a lot since opening the account.

Fine Print: “Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, cash-based charges (such as travellers’ checks, foreign currency and money orders), any checks drawn or withdrawn from your account, overdraft advances, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or any Type of fees, including annual fees (if applicable).

The interest rates are very high (as are most loyalty cards). I don’t recommend getting this card unless you can pay off your balance in full. I was able to meet my bonus payout within 3 months by using this card to pay my regular bills. I paid attention to the billing cycle date because I was told it could take 6-8 weeks for points to be posted. Although I received the card in November 2015, I did not use the card until January. I’m hoping to post all my points in 2016 as I try to earn the Companion Pass with 110, 000 points. Obviously this could be accomplished by opening a consumer and business card to get two quotes for 50,000, but I’m pretty sure I won’t spend 4,000 in 3 months.

When I made my last purchase before the last day of the billing cycle, to my surprise I hit 50,000 miles + $1 for every 2,000 miles the next day. What I didn’t realize is that miles over 50,000 miles count toward a companion pass (a year-round pass for a designated person traveling with you) but not toward tier status. 🙁

I also applied for the Chase Southwest Business Card, which has the same benefits but allows me to earn an additional 50, 000 points, which earned me the Southwest Companion Pass.

This card isn’t for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend applying unless you can pay off the balance on time so you don’t accrue interest. It would be advantageous to meet the minimum spend as soon as possible if possible, at the beginning of the year I no longer see this offer advertised on their website, but if you are interested please click apply. Sign-up bonuses vary depending on the time of year. I found that you can earn 40, 000-65, 000 points when you spend $1,000-$2,000 in 3 months.

Over 116K points and companion passes. A Southwest Airlines Companion Pass allows you to travel with a companion for one year. You only pay the tax on your companion’s ticket. I was able to enjoy the Companion Pass benefits for a year and a half. In 2016, I purchased 17 flights with 116K points at an average price of $26 and an average redemption of 3,758 points per flight. Assuming the regular ticket price averages $100 per ticket, that’s a savings of over $1, 200! I was able to get the best flight redemptions by traveling last minute, searching by calendar, and booking flights on new routes (deals) like Havana.

Absolutely, but it’s important to be strategic when choosing an airline card. Check out typical redemption costs and see if the airline consistently offers deals from your preferred airport. This is by far the best airline card I have ever owned.

Credit cards aren’t the only way to earn points! I can earn more points through revenue-generating flights, partner hotels, car rentals, and more.

If you want to own a Southwest Card for yourself, apply here after weighing the pros and cons. The current offer is to get 40K points when you spend 1K within 3 months. To be completely transparent, I will receive points for referrals, but I will not receive any information about who applied or the money.

Recently, TripAdvisor released the results of its Attraction Trend Index, revealing the 25 U.S. attractions with the fastest growing visitor interest this summer, based on year-over-year search activity on TripAdvisor. Here are the top 10 that will impress travelers looking to take advantage of the remaining weeks of summer and peace season… Today, Southwest Airlines announced new benefits available immediately for existing and new cardholders. New features include additional bonus points across various spending categories, unlimited ability to earn A-List status through spending, free early bird check-in and cash back on in-flight purchases. Additionally, two of the cards come with an innovative new feature: up to $500 per year back when you pay transfer points.

Southwest passengers without A-List status or upgraded boarding privileges will receive early boarding priority based on the time they check-in for their flight. One way to ensure you get proper boarding priority is to check in early. Southwest typically charges $15-$25 per person for this feature, but with a few Southwest cards now, you can get 2 early bird check-ins per year for free. This feature is available for the following cards:

The remaining cards did not get this feature as they already had a better feature: four upgrade boardings per year (A1-A15 boardings). This applies to:

I think this feature is self-explanatory. For some reason, the Southwest Performance Business Card doesn’t have this feature, but all other business cards do.

Today, there are several cards that earn tier qualification points on purchases, leading to A-List status. Earn 1,500 Tier Qualification Points for every $10,000 spent, with no cap (previously there was a $100,000 cap). A-List status requires 35,000 qualifying points and A-List Preferred requires 70,000 qualifying points.

Southwest Airlines charges one cent per point when transferring points to another Southwest member. Normally, I would strongly advise against doing this as the cost will negate much of the value of the points. But now, no matter which business card you use, you can get up to $500 in discounts every year. If you own Southwest Premier Business, you can transfer 50,000 points per year for free
