Apprenticeship nursing students are not eligible for student loans.
Student finance in England is set to change from 2025, with the creation of lifetime credit to finance a wider range of courses. Lifetime Credit allows people to claim up to the equivalent of four years’ worth of credit after 18 years for use during their working life. With the passage of the CARES Act, Congress froze student loan payments in March 2020, but for millions of borrowers, the freeze will expire in January 2023. About 45 million borrowers owe $1.6 trillion in student debt. To help borrowers pay off their debt, the White House is offering up to $20,000 in student loan forgiveness. This page outlines the new federal assistance plan for all borrowers and loan forgiveness programs for nurses only.

Student loan forgiveness programs traditionally reward public service professionals who work in areas of need, such as nurses and teachers who provide care in low-income communities. Programs provide full or partial loan forgiveness as an incentive to work in low-income populations. If borrowers meet the requirements and meet their work obligations, they can have their debt eliminated. Funds will go directly into their outstanding balance after they submit an application and fill out materials such as income information.

Many loan forgiveness programs require nurses to care for low-income populations or meet other unmet needs. This may include working for certain organizations, working in certain places, or serving in the military.
To address the school of nursing faculty shortage, the Health Resources and Services Administration has created a grant for registered nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), or nursing faculty. offers up to 85 percent loan forgiveness (plus interest).
