Virginia Real Estate Appraisal Board – The Real Estate Appraisal Council governs individuals and companies that estimate the value of real estate, as well as valuation management companies (AMCs), in accordance with federal guidelines. The Assessment Subcommittee is a federal agency charged with overseeing state appraisal oversight programs. The Appraisal Foundation, a non-profit body designated by Congress as a source of qualifications and evaluation standards, serves as an umbrella organization for the Standards and Evaluation Council.
The council accepts only the latest version of the software offered below. The Board is not responsible for any processing delays related to forms that do not comply with this requirement.

1. How do I contact the Board of Directors? Can I speak directly to board members?
You can reach the Board of Directors at 804-367-2039 (Licensing Section) or 804-367-8552 (Board Office) via FAX at 1-866-826-8863 or by email at REAppraisers @. Also, if you have any information you would like to send to the Board, please send it to:

Board members do not work in the board office. They come into the board office for meetings and hearings, but not here every day. Council staff can answer your questions and are trained to process all the information that comes into the board office. Please do not contact councilors directly.
The selling price is the actual price that the buyer pays for a particular property. An appraisal is a detailed appraisal of a single property and can be obtained at any time throughout the year. An appraisal can have different purposes, such as for a mortgage, a mortgage sale, and a real estate appraisal. An appraisal is a large appraisal of assets as of January 1 each year for tax purposes. Valuation is based on the large number of sales that are analyzed to determine the price for a large group of similar properties.
Assessors are required to comply with Board regulations and uniform standards of professional assessment practice. If you believe the assessor may be in violation of state regulations or federal standards, you may file a complaint with the section’s regulatory and compliance program section.
4. I need to renew my license, but I have not received my renewal form. What should I do?
How To Become A Certified General Appraiser
Send the check processing fee due to the Virginia Treasury and include your license / certificate number on your check. Please fill out the name / address change form if you have moved or changed your name. Send this information to:
5. My payment is a day late and I always pay on time. Can you waive the late fee?
No. Board regulations provide 30 days after the expiration date at which the license can be renewed without penalty (so your payment is actually 31 days late). Employees cannot waive fees. Board regulations state that if the requirements for license renewal, including receipt by the Board, are not met within 30 days of the expiration date, a recurring fee is required.
6. I did not renew on time because I did not receive my renewal card. Do I still have to pay the late fee or re-register?
Moseley: Course Categories
Yes. The Board’s regulations state that failure to obtain a renewal notice does not relieve the licensee of the obligation to renew.
7. Does the Board of Directors use the date of receipt or postal date to determine whether a request or renewal has been received in a timely manner?
The date of application or renewal is received at the agency determining whether it is on time, not a postal date. If the renewal fee is received after the due date, you will have to repay the fee. If the renewal fee is received after the deadline, you will need to reapply for a license that meets all current requirements.

Many councils allow you to update your address using online services, so go to your personal profile to see if this is an option for your license type. The option is to fill out a printout, sign and send the address change form to the council office by post. Unless updated online, all address change forms must be received by the council in writing. When providing a post box as a postal address, it must be accompanied by an actual address.
